In the fall, the chances of getting the flu are greater. The cold, the type of humidity and staying indoors make us prone to illness. It’s a good idea to know how to protect yourself and take some vitamins recommended for autumn or during drops in temperature.

In the end, we will only have the strength of our immune system to face the pathogens that can invade our bodies. In this sense, we must remember that low temperatures contribute to the decline of white blood cells. So it’s better to try to strengthen your defenses.

Vitamin C: essential for the immune system

Vitamin C is the main vitamin responsible for promoting the immune system, and today we know that this substance  considerably decreases its percentage in blood plasma when we are sick.

Vitamin C is also known to contribute to the formation of phagocytes. They are white blood cells that absorb harmful microorganisms and generate enzymes for their destruction.

On the other hand, this substance is also a very effective antioxidant. The effect of this vitamin is very important against microorganisms reactive to oxygen. These multiply in our body every time we have an illness.

Fortunately, we can get this substance from most citrus fruits. Orange, mandarin and lemon are rich sources of vitamin C. Furthermore, strawberries and kiwi fruit also contain it.

Recommended Autumn Vitamins: Vitamin A

Composed mainly of retinol and other carotenoids, vitamin A also has a notable influence on the constitution of defenses. Its contribution is also in the production of white blood cells by the body.

It’s important to know that we don’t need to resort to any supplements to get this vitamin substance. Foods like meat, milk and green vegetables are rich in retinol. Likewise, spinach and carrots also have a high content of this component.

Vitamin D helps us with white blood cells

Vitamin D does not directly influence the creation of white blood cells. However, it is critical in increasing your accounting. Basically, this component delays the time of destruction of these defenses in the body. With their influence, phagocytes increase their life expectancy.

The good news is that it’s a totally free vitamin. You only need to spend a few minutes in the sun for your skin to absorb it. Clearly, this would explain why in cold and rainy weather our defenses diminish.

Vitamins B and E contribute to some extent

The vitamin B group influences the metabolic processes in the human body. Although their scope is not directly related to the formation of white blood cells, they intervene at a general level in the creation of defenses.

Specifically,  vitamin B affects the conformation of proteins which, in turn, are essential for the body’s immunity. Also, without a good nutritional foundation, it is logical that defenses fall down.

Without a doubt, the B-complex falls into the group of vitamins recommended to prevent the breakdown of defenses.

Vitamin E, in turn,  contains antioxidants that protect cells. While we’ve always known that its skin-friendly effect, this substance also works internally. Added to this, it is believed to work in combination with vitamin C.

Folic acid is another of the recommended autumn vitamins.

Folic acid is not just good for pregnant women. This mineral  promotes the production of a specific species of white blood cells: neutrophils. Therefore, eradicating it from our diet makes us prone to infections of all kinds.

Folate is something we can find in some of the most common human foods. Some products that contain it in good amounts are: rice, broccoli, breads and cereals.

Green leafy vegetables and citrus fruits are also rich in folic acid. As we can see, the recommended autumn vitamins can be obtained through a varied, healthy and balanced diet.

On the other hand, there are some supplements and medical products that can be used to strengthen the  vitamin load. Vitamins B, C and E can be found in pills and injectable solutions.

Folic acid is also sold as an easily accessible commercial product. That way, we will be ready to face the temperature drop.
